Last weekend was rough for The Pack and the Badgers and it could be ugly once again for both teams. Even though the Badger band returns this week after their suspension, it will not be enough for Bucky to beat a strong Penn State team in Madison. The Badgers should have easily won in Michigan and last week against Ohio State, but they gave the games away. This week will be a struggle.
The Packers go out to Seattle and play a very bad Seahawks team. On paper it should be an easy win for the Packers, but Green Bay is struggling to block anyone and rushing the quarterback is nonexistent. It could be a high scoring game and the team that wins will have the ball last. I give the Packers the win...31-28. Rodgers will shine, but the defense will give up a lot of big plays.
Finally, the game of the week is Saturday at 11am...Oklahoma-Texas. The Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The game is played on a neutral site equal distance between Norman, OK and Austin, TX (homes of each school). Many say Ohio State and Michigan is the biggest rivalry...others will say any game in the SEC is huge, and Oklahoma vs Nebraska was the granddaddy of them all years ago, but Oklahoma Texas, there is nothing bigger. All rivals in any sport hate each other...Packers-Bears, Packers-Vikings, Brewers-Cubs, but the hate between Oklahoma and Texas is out of this world. Two states where high school and college football is everything, this is the showcase of all that talent. There are high school stadiums in both states that seat 20,000 people have AstroTurf and the bands are phenomenal. I was overwhelmed when I moved to Oklahoma before my senior year in high school...it was awesome since I love football so much.
The Oklahoma Texas game is at the Cotton Bowl which is in the Texas State Fairgrounds...half of the stadium is burnt orange (gross) and the other half is crimson (beautiful!). The Texas State Fair is going on at this time as well so it is a huge party. The Texas State Fair brings in 3 million people in the two weeks in it going on...then throw in a huge rivalry football game...it gets crazy!
The game is always huge and the teams are always ranked in the top 15 so it has major implications, but this year it is even greater. Oklahoma is #1 and Texas is #5. It will be a shootout and it will be intense. The showdown begins at 11am tomorrow and I am so pumped...it is an early National Championship game and my team is #1..hopefully they will still be standing tomorrow afternoon.
Sooners win 38-24. BOOMER SOONER! GO OU!
