I hope every mother had a great day yesterday despite the nasty weather. Mother Nature's kids must have upset her.
We had a great weekend. We did not leave the house on Saturday and actually worked in the yard all day. Ali is becoming a huge help. She likes helping me dig and get all dirty. She is getting over her fear of bugs. She loves looking for worms as I dig in the dirt. When I mow the grass, she follows me with her mower. She loves being outside with Tina and me.
We planted our vegetable garden Saturday afternoon and Ali wanted to get in the dirt and manure with me. "Daddy, does that bag have cow poop in it?" Yes it does. "That is stinky Daddy." It got chilly in the late afternoon when the wind shifted off the lake, but we just put on sweatshirts....so sad that we have to wear layers in May. Our neighbors had family visiting from Illinois and Ali played with the 3 year old boy Aidan when she was not helping me and Tina in the garden. We brought out a lot of her toys and they got along very well together.
So we planted 4 different kinds of tomatoes, 4 kinds of peppers in addition to jalapeno peppers. I wanted habanero peppers to see how the deer reacted after munching on them. They would run around like crazy grunting and snorting as their mouth was on fire...poor things. Stay out of my garden. Ha ha!
We also planted sugar snap peas, green beans, cucumbers, strawberries, and one pumpkin plant. Maybe Ali will have a few pumpkins this fall. I am also growing a few rows of sweet corn. Just call me Farmer Brian. Tina and I need to take a picture holding our pitchforks as I chew on a piece of straw. See, we are just normal people who love to be outdoors all the time. Ali and I want a cow. Not sure how the neighbors would handle that. Not sure if I want to mow around those droppings.
By 6pm we were tired, cold and filthy. A pressure washing was needed to get all the dirt off. But we decided to start a bonfire. Ali loves the fire and throwing sticks into it. We roasted a few marshmallows and had smores. Now Ali and I really needed to wash up. Her face was covered with chocolate and sticky marshmallow goo.
After we all washed up, it was time to relax. It felt great to just sit on the couch with my girls. After Ali went to bed, we were not that far behind. I slept like a baby after all that work and fresh air.
Sunday's weather was nasty, but we were going to the Brewer game. Tina got tickets from the Susan G Komen Foundation. It was Bat Out Breast Cancer Day at baseball games and Tina volunteers for the Komen Foundation. Ali was so excited to go to Bernie's House (Miller Park) to see her friend Bernie Brewer. With my season ticket package, I got 10 passes to the Metavante Club so we made reservations for Mother's Day Brunch at 1pm. The food was excellent and the view of the field from the restaurant is awesome. Our table was next to the glass in the corner where Bernie slides down his slide. Ali was in heaven. She has never been that close to Bernie. After Braun's homerun in the 3rd he slid down and was 2 feet from Ali as he waved his Brewer flag. She was shouting in the restaurant but he could not hear her due to the glass, but he did wave at her. Man was she excited. After the 3rd inning we went to our seats and watched the Brewers win. We left our seats in the 8th inning so Ali could go play in the fun zone where they have a miniature Bernie's Dugout and slide. It was tough getting her off of that. Considering she had a 1 hour nap before we left, she was perfect and loved the game. When we were in the restaurant, she kept asking to go to her seat. "Daddy, I want to go out there and sit in my seat and watch the game." I guess she did not like the fancy club, she wanted a $1 hot dog and to be with her people in the stands. That's my girl.
She fell asleep on the way home and took a nice afternoon nap while Tina and I relaxed and watched The Players Championship Golf Tournament from Jacksonville, FL. It was 90 yesterday in her hometown and it was just nice to see her home on TV. You could tell she missed the warmth as it was in the 50s here. We love going to that tournament, what a beautiful golf course. I think it is better than the Masters...there is nothing like TPC Sawgrass, especially the famous 17th island green hole.
Tina said she had a great Mother's Day.
