Five time Emmy-winning journalist John Mercure brings more than 15 years of reporting and anchoring experience to his position here at TODAY'S TMJ4. John joined the station in September 1999. John specializes in long format pieces and investigative projects. In May 2006, John was named Senior Investigative Reporter: "I believe as journalists we have a responsibiility not only to report stories, but to make a real difference in the lives of our viewers, to be an advocate for what's right and fair."

John grew up in the Chicago area but has strong ties to Milwaukee. Much of his family is from Southeastern Wisconsin, and John's grandparents have Packers season tickets.

Before coming to Milwaukee, John spent more than three years in Green Bay where he anchored the evening news for WLUK-TV. John has also worked in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Rockford, Illinois, and LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

His strong skills and professionalism are evident from the recognition he has received for his work, which includes an Emmy for Reporter Individual Excellence and four Emmys for Investigative reporting. John has also won numberous awards from the Wisconsin Broadcaster's Association, the Wisconsin Associated Press, the Milwaukee Press Club, the Northwest Broadcast News Association, and the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Association. John has also been nominated for five other Emmys: "The awards are nice recognition from our peers, but the real reward is doing a story that impacts or helps our viewers." John's stories have led to changes in state law and have resulted in numerous prosecutions and convictions.

John holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communications with a minor in political science from Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois.

When he's not covering breaking news or investigating a great story, John looks forward to spending time with his wife, Michelle and their 15-year-old twins, Kierra and Aimee. The family plays several different sports together but soccer is the favorite family pastime. The Mercures enjoy traveling and exploring new places. Recent family vacations have included Spain, Ireland and Washington, D.C. "Getting away is great, but our favorite place is right here in Wisconsin. It's hard to beat the combination of the lake and the forests and all the good restaurants downtown."
